Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State, has minimized the current wave of defections in the North West, blaming them on individual interests rather than the general well-being of the people.

Speaking to reporters following the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Northwest’s first Zonal Executive Council Meeting in Kaduna on Saturday, Tambuwal attacked politicians who were switching to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that their choices were motivated more by personal gain than by serving the public interest.

“People switch parties for various reasons, but what I’ve observed is that these defections are not about the people’s interest—they’re about personal gains, what I call ‘stomach infrastructure,” he stated.

He also criticized the federal government, which is governed by the APC, saying it lacks direction, empathy, and vision.

Given the current state of the economy and the perceived inadequacies of the Tinubu administration, he said, any moral politician would not support the APC.

In order to provide Nigerians with a competitive alternative, Tambuwal called on opposition groups to band together and plan ahead of the 2027 elections.

“There’s nothing attractive about the APC beyond personal benefits. Those of us committed to this country and true public service must come together to ensure that by 2027, we remove this administration that has failed Nigerians,” he added.

The PDP Northwest, meanwhile, emphasized the value of unity and strategic mobilization while restating its resolve to regain power in 2027.

PDP Northwest Chairman Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo gave a statement at the conclusion of the meeting that reaffirmed the party’s determination to reclaim national leadership.
