Victor Aleva, President of Mzough U Tiv UK (MUTUK), has expressed deep concern over the lack of reconstruction efforts in Yelwata, Benue State, following the deadly herdsmen attack in June that claimed over 200 lives.

Speaking on Wednesday during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a current affairs programme aired on Channels Television, Aleva lamented that, despite a visit by President Tinubu shortly after the tragic event, the affected community remains in a devastated state.

During the June visit, the President had pledged action in response to the killings, which left dozens dead, many injured, and countless others displaced.

But months later, Aleva voiced disappointment over the absence of visible progress in rebuilding efforts.

“I was there in Yelewata last week Saturday and I saw things myself and I want to tell you that it is quite unfortunate. It is not about playing to the gallery or just saying things and being political. As I speak, nothing has changed.

“I told you here during my earlier interview that nothing good is going to come out of the President’s visit to Benue State. All those are just political, nothing is happening in Yelewata, I have video evidence, I have interview from the locals, I was there live with my entourage,” he said.

During his visit, President Tinubu had directed the service chiefs and the Inspector General of Police to bring those responsible for the killings to justice.

Shortly afterward, IGP Kayode Egbetokun announced the apprehension of 26 individuals believed to be linked to the attack.

However, Aleva dismissed the claims of arrests, calling them false and misleading, and insisting that no real action has been taken.

“You know that is a lie. Because the president went there and scolded the Inspector-General of Police and just less than 48 hours or there about, they paraded some people.

“Where are the people? That incident actually happened I think on the 13th and 14th of June, this is more than two months, where are the people,” He queried.
