The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted a license to Ebonyi State University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering, making it the 300th university in Nigeria. This new institution is also the 69th state-owned university in the country and the third in Ebonyi State.

Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, Executive Secretary of NUC, described the licensing as a “historic milestone” that showcases the Ebonyi State Government’s commitment to education and technological innovation. “This is not just about adding to the number of universities, but about creating a world-class institution that will drive research, innovation, and industry collaboration in the aerospace sector,” he said
The university will focus on aeronautics and aerospace engineering, addressing Nigeria’s need for expertise in aviation and related technologies. Ribadu emphasized the importance of academic integrity, curriculum standards, and industry collaboration, urging the university to adhere to NUC guidelines.

Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by Deputy Governor Patricia Obila, expressed his administration’s commitment to education and innovation. “The certificate is given to us because we have been tested, we have gone through all the hurdles, and at the end of the day, we passed everything,” he said. “We are ready to give the best education our people require for uplift.”
Ribadu also called on stakeholders to work together to ensure the institution’s success and uphold the highest standards of academic integrity. The NUC will notify relevant agencies, including JAMB, TETFund, NYSC, and NELFUND, about the new university
