OAU Senate approves 2024/2025 academic calendar; session begins October 11

The Senate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has released the approved academic calendar for the 2024/2025 session, announcing that the new session will officially commence on October 11, 2025, with the phased resumption of fresh students.

The decision was reached during the Senate’s meeting on Thursday and confirmed in a statement by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, who assured that the institution was fully prepared for another year of progress. He said, “The University is set for another year of excellence, innovation, and transformative learning.”

According to the schedule, students in the Faculties of Administration, Arts, Environmental Design and Management (EDM), Education, Law, and Social Sciences will resume residence on Saturday, October 11. Fresh students in the Faculties of Agriculture, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Computing, Engineering, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology will move into hostels on Sunday, October 12.

Online registration for new students will open on October 13, followed by the Orientation Programme from October 13 to 17, and the ICT Training from October 20 to 24.

Returning undergraduates are scheduled to resume on Sunday, October 26, with lectures commencing the following day, Monday, October 27. Normal registration will close on October 31, while late registration with penalty will run between November 24 and 28.

The Matriculation Ceremony for freshers is slated for December 3. The Harmattan Semester will span 13 weeks of lectures, ending with a revision week and examinations through March 2026. The Rain Semester will begin on March 30, 2026.

Olarewaju reaffirmed OAU’s pledge to ensure a well-structured and student-friendly academic year. He said, “The University remains committed to a structured, flexible calendar that promotes intellectual growth and holistic student development, while assuring both fresh and returning students of a smooth academic experience.
