The speculation surrounding a potential joint ticket between Mr. Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso has sparked mixed reactions across Nigeria.

ZINGTIE recalls that in 2023, Obi was the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, while Kwankwaso represented the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).

Last week, a meeting between Kwankwaso and leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) resulted in the former NNPP national leader joining the opposition coalition party, ADC.

On Sunday, March 22, 2026, Obi, a prominent figure in the ADC and former governor of Anambra State, paid a Sallah visit to Kwankwaso in Kano, where both politicians were cheered on by a large crowd.

Following that visit, speculation has grown that the ADC might have finally settled on an Obi–Kwankwaso ticket for 2027.

Ordinary Nigerians are also weighing in on the development.

Speaking with ZINGTIE, Lilian Ijeoma, a civil servant in Abuja, said, “If this happens, it could be a game-changer for Nigeria. We need leaders with proven track records.”

“I think it would be a strong alliance,” said Emeka Nwafor, a political science student at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Abuja.

Owigo Okolo, a political broadcaster at KISS FM, commented, “Both former governors have strong supporters, so I can vouch that they will win if they form an alliance. I am even ready to vote if that happens.”

On social media, Nigerians have also been vocal about their opinions on the possible ticket.

@Talesbymark says, “If this happens, it could be a game-changer for Nigeria. We need leaders with proven track records.”

@Segun Osiki: “Obi’s integrity and Kwankwaso’s experience could change the game.”

@Drench: “In Nigerian politics, the enemy of my enemy is my running mate.”

@Ebys’Lady said, “The biggest threat to an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket isn’t the APC; it’s the internal hierarchy of the merger itself.”

@Musa Abubakar wrote: “If he says Obi is the partner, the North will listen. But we want to see a plan for the economy, not just photos of them smiling together.”

@Johnson wrote: “Obi has the credibility while Kwankwaso has political structure in the North. Together they can challenge the ruling party.”

@Henry Uch: “I admire Obi, but alliances in Nigerian politics often collapse before elections.”

@CHRYX wrote: “Your Excellency, this is the kind of leadership we are yearning for. Seeing you break bread with Dr. Kwankwaso sends a powerful message that unity is not just a slogan. We are tired of the divisions. Thank you for showing that a ‘New Nigeria’ is indeed possible when leaders prioritize brotherhood over politics. We are with you, PO!”

@Dr. Ben wrote: “I hope you two join hands and save Nigeria from Tinubu and APC cartel. Tell Kwankwaso to humble himself and reason things from the victory perspective, and not from a selfish person’s perspective. If things go as planned, APC and Tinubu will be put to shame!”

@Albryt: “ADC don’t let Nigerians down. Peter Obi & Kwankwanso ticket will fly every corner of this country. Peter Obi 2027.”

@ObiDemocrat: “On this hill Obidients X Kwankwasiyas.”

@Udeh Francis: “@Imranmuhdz, we’re welcoming everyone onboard because we send you guys the APC packing come 2027”.
