In response to remarks made by Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice presidential candidate for the Labour Party in 2023, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) stated that his opinions were his own and did not represent the stance of the opposition alliance.

In an interview with Channels TV, Baba-Ahmed had charged that the ADC-led coalition was “misleading Nigerians.”

He also disclosed his intention to run alongside Peter Obi in the 2027 elections.

Baba-Ahmed is respected, but Jackie Wayas, the deputy national publicity secretary for ADC, emphasized in a statement issued on Saturday that the alliance is a joint endeavor including other political figures and groups.

“Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed is known for integrity and justice. Since this coalition is built on shared strength, we hope he will join in pushing for a better Nigeria,” Wayas stated.

She clarified that significant players such former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Governor of Kaduna Nasir el-Rufai, former Senate President David Mark, former Governor of Osun Rauf Aregbesola, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi were consulted before the alliance was created.

Wayas further emphasized that Obi has already affirmed that the ADC will be the platform for the 2027 elections and reaffirmed his commitment to the alliance.

She referenced Obi’s July 3, 2025, statement in which he stated that the coalition would cooperate to guarantee that Nigeria has capable, humane leadership that prioritizes the needs of its people.

The coalition is committed to unity, the interests of the nation, and finding answers to the problems facing the nation, she continued.

“Nigerians deserve a clear and united opposition. Let us rally behind the ADC to rescue the nation,” she said.
