The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has disclosed that he is a billionaire when his wealth is measured in naira.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, rejected claims that he qualifies as a billionaire in United States dollars.
He made the clarification while answering questions on the ‘Keeping It Real with Adeola Fayehun’ podcast in the US.
The NDC presidential candidate explained that the US dollar is the benchmark commonly used when determining billionaire status.
According to Obi, however, his wealth places him in the billionaire category when calculated in naira.
Obi said: “You know they calculate billionaire in dollars. In naira, yes I am (a billionaire) in naira but not in dollars.
“You know dollars is what they use to measure. Dollars is what they use to measure billionaire, it’s always in dollars but in naira, yes I am. Capital yes.”
Obi is currently in the United States as part of his engagements for the presidential campaign.
