The Obidient Movement has voiced its alarm about what it calls a careless assault on Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the general election of 2023.
Recent remarks made by Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary for the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Arise TV on January 5, 2025, particularly alarmed the movement.
The APC mouthpiece had said that Obi has “crossed the line so many times and he has what’s coming to him, and whatever he gets, he should manage it.”
According to a statement signed by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the Obidient Movement views this as a direct threat to both Obi’s life and the stability of the Nigerian state.
The Obidient Movement stated that it interprets the comment as a warning of the nation’s slide towards dictatorship under Tinubu’s rule, in addition to being an assault on the outspoken 2023 LP presidential contender.
“Such a declaration from the spokesperson of the ruling party is reckless, unbecoming, and a blatant endorsement of violence,” the statement added.
The Obidient Movement called for information on the line that Peter Obi crossed and the person who drew it in their statement on Monday.
Additionally, Obidient stated that they would like to know the authority that drew the line as well as the precise words or deeds of Obi that support the ruling party’s assertion.
“What exactly is coming to Peter Obi?” the movement enquired.
It charged that the Tinubu administration preferred threats over democratic discourse, intimidation over engagement, and repression over conversation.
“We categorically state that if any harm befalls Mr Peter Obi, his family, or anyone associated with him, the Nigerian government and its agents will be held directly responsible,” the statement said.
Additionally, it urged Nigerians and the global world to hold those in authority responsible and to pay attention to the alleged pattern the ruling party has established.
“We urge the security services to not sweep such threats under the carpet as they have done in previous times but engage Mr Morka to elucidate on his utterance.”
Peter Obi had previously screamed that his life was in danger because of his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
