As was generally believed, Obiora and five other students were abducted on July 26, 2025, revealed that their assailants were not Fulani herdsmen, but TIV indegenes from Benue State.
This evidence has brought attention to the veracity of official rescue claims and clearly contradicts assertions made by the Nigeria Police.
According to Obiora, who is presently enrolled at the Nigerian Law School’s Yola campus, the kidnapping happened near the Zakibiam-Mukari Expressway.
When they were stopped, he and the others were on their way from Onitsha to Yola in a corporate vehicle.
He claimed that everything was going well until they were unexpectedly ambushed and led into the surrounding bushes.
He discovered that the majority of the kidnappers were Tiv-speaking locals when they were in captivity.
He clarified that the most of the abductors were obviously members of the Tiv ethnic group, while one or two might have been Fulani.
According to Obiora, the group was local because they were familiar with the area and spoke the Tiv language often.
During the several days they were detained, one of them, David, who had the same name as him, revealed his extensive background in the kidnapping enterprise.
According to Obiora, this specific kidnapper divulged unsettling information regarding his private life.
He asserted that he had over nine years of experience in the abduction industry.
He had apparently earned enough money to purchase a Highlander SUV and another vehicle for his wife, despite the dangers involved.
He claims that his kids live nicely and attend reputable schools.
He acknowledged, though, that because he is a wanted man, he has never been allowed to return to his own home.
Poor conditions were maintained for the abducted students, who were frequently bound and relocated.
According to Obiora, several of the kidnappers even made fun of the cops, demonstrating their audacity and lack of fear of being apprehended.
He went on to say that the men appeared experienced and well-coordinated, acting as though they had done this a lot before.
They pretended to be in control, operating fearlessly and without urgency when negotiating the ransom.
One of the kidnappers, David, boasted about having been in the abduction business for more than nine years, according to Obiora. He informed us that he hadn’t visited his family in years.
He stated that his wife now drives both the Highlander SUV and another vehicle that he purchased for her. His kids are doing well in school. However, because he is desired, he is unable to visit or furnish his own home. He claimed that they are already marked and will continue to operate till they are apprehended.
