Anthony Bissong Attah, the chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Cross River State, has characterized President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu’s ongoing support as more of a business venture than sincere political backing.
Attah asserted in a Friday exclusive interview with ZINGTIE that certain politicians have made endorsements a lucrative business, with many making substantial sums of money in the process.
“The current wave of endorsements is a business transaction for some enterprising politicians.
“These endorsements will persist, and the same individuals will likely repeat them several times before the 2027 elections.”
According to him, certain organizations and people are expected to support the same political personalities up to five times in order to profit from the endorsements.
“Each time the beneficiary fails to maintain the ‘investment,’ the terms of the deal change,” he added.
Additionally, Attah issued a warning that some of today’s supporters might turn into tomorrow’s adversaries, therefore it is important to not take their endorsements at face value. He said, “This is politics.”
He brushed off the endorsements as meaningless publicity stunts.
“It’s more motion than movement, largely hyped in the media without significant political weight,” he said.
Attah questioned the long-term effects of the surge of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC, saying that disillusionment would set in as internal APC divisions increased.
“As more people flood into the APC, a crack in the expendable army of traditional supporters is inevitable.
“A well-organized political party can seize the moment and take advantage of the coming implosion.”
