The 200-level students of the Performing Arts Department at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, recently staged a captivating performance of “Echoes of the Drums,” a play written by Ola Awakan.

The play, which served as a practical participation and production workshop for the students, effectively utilized drum instrumentation and dance to convey timely and relevant messages. The dance drama showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people, highlighting the uniqueness of Nigeria’s dynamic culture through costumes, artistry, and other elements.

Dr. Olusola Adeyemi, Head of the Performing Arts Department, praised the students for their outstanding performance, also commending Femi Jacobs, who supervised the production. “With what I’ve watched on stage, it was a great performance, and indeed, the students impressed me. They’ve improved, and this gladdens my heart,” he said.

Femi Jacobs expressed his pride in the students, stating, “The students made a brilliant effort. I’m so proud of them. The triplets in the play were not drummers, but I challenged them, and they delivered.”

Lead director Messach Ilumo described the experience as a “very remarkable journey,” adding, “It felt good seeing the hard work and numerous days of rehearsals come to life.”
