Samuel Ortom, who previously served as governor of Benue State, has rejected allegations that he intends to seek any political position in the 2027 general elections.

His media aide, Dr Terver Akase, issued a statement on Saturday to provide clarification in Makurdi.

As reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, speculation arose on social media indicating that Ortom was gearing up to run for the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in the upcoming election cycle.

Reacting to the claims, Ortom said, “I have no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027. I have said this clearly, publicly, and repeatedly.

“I expect that a position stated this plainly would not require translation or creative reinterpretation.”

He reiterated that he remained focused on promoting democratic values, strengthening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and providing leadership guidance, rather than seeking elective office.

Ortom additionally called on the public to ignore the reports, labeling them “a fabrication.”
