Unfounded rumors regarding Governor Ademola Adeleke’s alleged switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have resumed, casting doubt on Osun State’s political system.
As both political parties get ready for the state’s gubernatorial election on August 8, 2026, the current state of disarray is expected to continue.
In an interview with ZINGTIE on Friday, Oladele Bamiji, the PDP spokeswoman, dismissed the rumor as idle gossip.
He said, “I have debunked this information on many occasions. Ademola Adeleke is not decamping to any political party.
“Governor Adeleke is not a small fry that will do such a thing in secret if it is true. As at today, he is still in the PDP and he has not decamped to any political party,” he stated.
Governor Adeleke had reiterated his commitment to the PDP, according to Bamiji.
Governor Adeleke is not welcome and will not be joining the Osun APC, the party has reiterated.
Speaking to reporters during a media parley hosted by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Zone B, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru reiterated the party’s position on Wednesday, saying, “Adeleke is not joining our party. I know that as of today, decamping is not on board.
“Although APC is a beautiful bride for anybody that wants to join, I must say here that as a party man and an established politician, I would say that I am one of the people that is extremely loyal to Mr President.”
Many rumors that he is going to defect to the APC have been refuted on multiple occasions by Governor Adeleke and the Osun PDP.
The governor’s supporters and those loyal to Adeleke’s predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, the APC leader in Osun State, engaged in heated arguments on Thursday after new defection rumors swept through the state’s major towns.
According to ZINGTIE, a number of these rumor mongers have been sending President Bola Tinubu photos of Adeleke’s recent visit with his older brother Deji Adeleke and musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido.
They asserted that the defection plan was finalized during the meeting and that Adeleke had committed to joining the APC, serving out his second term, and then supporting Tinubu’s second term agenda in 2027 in return.
In a statement on Thursday, Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson for Governor Adeleke, denied the rumors and called the defection claims “false, unfounded, and politically motivated.”
The public should ignore the rumor as false information, Olawale advised.
According to him, Governor Adeleke expressed concern about the pervasive rumor and told his admirers and followers that he is still the PDP’s leader in the state and a member of the party.
“I assure the good people of Osun that I remain part and parcel of the PDP family. I am not defecting to any party,” Olawale said Governor Adeleke had said.
He revealed that the governor reaffirmed his dedication to carrying out the five-point plan of his government and pledged to further his efforts to provide Osun State residents with democratic dividends and excellent governance.
