In the interest of justice, equity, and fairness, former local government chairmen from the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Osun West Senatorial area have urged the party’s leadership to zone the party’s gubernatorial ticket to the senatorial area.

Under the aegis of the Forum of All Former Local Government Chairmen in Osun West, the former council helmsmen also guaranteed that Osun West would continue to be the state’s APC stronghold.

They asserted the governorship candidate of the party, if nominated from the district, will remove the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

This revelation was made on Wednesday at a press conference at the party’s Senatorial Secretariat in Iwo.

They declared their unity and resolve regarding the governorship agenda for the benefit of the district’s growth and the party’s unity.

In a statement read by former Ayediire local government chairman Mukaila Oladejo and signed by 41 previous district chairmen, the Forum also praised President Bola Tinubu for the ongoing national reforms and passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

The communiqué read in part, “The Forum converged to review policies and politics in Nigeria and Osun State in particular to advise all our party organs appropriately and provide necessary support and interventions to ensure the stability of the current administration at the national level and ensure victory for the party in the coming local government election and 2026 governorship election in Osun State.

“The Forum critically reviewed our party management and administration under the leadership of Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola and the State Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal and rated the party management excellent with the growing membership drive and coordination which is making our party more attractive to the people in the state and as well positioned the party to win future election in the state.

“The Forum unequivocally pass a Vote of Confidence on the leadership of our party in the state, Alhaji Isiaka Adgboyega Oyetola and the state working committee led by Sooko Tajudeen Lawal. The Forum, however, noted with serious concern, the rising political tension in Osun APC over the choice of candidate for the 2026 governorship election.

“That the Forum believe in the privilege Right of Refusal by the former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in the 2026 governorship contest in the interest of fairness as the last former governor of our party who still has the constitutional opportunity to spend another 4 years as governor.

“That outside former Governor Oyetola, from Osun central, the party should be firm and never contemplate zoning the governorship ticket outside Osun West Senatorial District in the interest of justice, fairness and equity.

“That during the 2022 governorship election, against all odds, Osun West APC delivered 6 out of 10 local governments in the senatorial district despite the fact the Peoples Democratic Party candidate came from Osun West.

“That the party is waxing stronger on daily basis and united in presenting a competent, vibrant and loyal party member that will drive the programmes and policies of our party to develop the state and make it more prosperous.

“That this position must be communicated to the Osun West APC Elders and other stakeholders in the party for transmission to Chief Bisi Akande, Alhaji Adgboyega Oyetola and the Osun State APC Elders Forum (Igbimo Agba),” the communiqué read.

The Osun West APC members’ determination to put up a strong, well-liked candidate to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke further strengthened the chairmen’s belief that the party will regain control of Osun State by 2026.
