The Nigerian National Peoples Party (NNPP) unit in Osun State has said that it is prepared for the state’s upcoming gubernatorial election.

The party made this announcement after learning that Osun State’s gubernatorial election has been set for August 8, 2026, according to information from the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.

The party added that it was anticipating the news because it will undoubtedly alter the state’s political climate.

The NNPP claimed in a statement released on Saturday by its state chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, that it is eager to overthrow the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, government led by Ademola Adeleke.

He charged that the PDP-led government was running the state on propaganda every day.

Odeyemi said, “Now that the coast is becoming clearer, our party will start the tour of every ward in Osun State to sensitise the citizens on the need to vote their conscience, not emotion.

“Our doors are open to everyone with good intentions of governing Osun; we will welcome such individuals with open arms and treat them equally with present members.

“We will also ensure collaboration with any people-oriented political party that is ready to salvage our dear state from this government of nepotism.

“As we’ve earlier affirmed, the Osun 2026 gubernatorial election will be a funny and surprising game, one which we have never experienced in the state before.”

In addition to advising the state’s political gladiators to follow the rules, Odeyemi cautioned that no one should ever set the state on fire out of self-interest.

According to information obtained by ZINGTIE, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, declared the dates for the elections in Osun and Ekiti.

During the swearing-in of six recently appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), whose nominations were recently accepted by the National Assembly, Prof. Yakubu made the news on Friday.
