The All Progressives Congress, or APC, in Osun State has rejected the assertion made by the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, that 250,000 jobs have been created in the last two years.

Kola Olabisi, the party’s Director of Media and Information, responded by calling the claim untrue and denouncing the governor for not hiring educators and medical personnel for the state’s public hospitals and schools.

The party said, “Is it not funny and strange that Governor Ademola Adeleke, who could not employ teachers and health workers for three years in his administration, is now thinking it wise to recruit 10,000 Imole Youth Corps members?”

He highlighted the understaffing in public hospitals and the teacher shortage in public schools as major issues, and he questioned why the governor was giving recruitment of youth corps members priority over the provision of essential services.

“Claim of 250,000 job opportunities in two years is a fake story. We sympathise with the applicant-teachers swindled into purchasing employment forms by the PDP-led administration in Osun State, who have been waiting for three years without any indication of recruitment under Adeleke’s government,” Olabisi added.

Ademola Adeleke, the governor, announced Thursday that his administration had produced about 250,000 jobs in the last two years, citing financial support for businesses and local content policies as the reasons for the accomplishment.

Speaking in Osogbo at the 10,000 youngsters’ induction into the Imole Youth Corps, Adeleke said the program was a component of his larger strategy to address unemployment.

He said that the program trained young people from Osun’s 332 political wards to offer services in the areas of education, health, security, and the environment.

He said, “Our administration is focused on tackling the unemployment crisis. We note the widespread joblessness among the youth.

“Our first decision is to create an enabling environment for job creation by both the government and the private sector.”

According to him, the program is a transitory arrangement that gives young people opportunities and skills in a variety of fields.

“Today’s gathering is a continuation of our efforts to provide job opportunities for our teaming youth,” he added.

The governor told the newly enlisted Imole Youth Corps members that they would be trained to provide important services in their respective duties. He urged them to be dedicated and professional in their tasks.

Adeleke outlined some of his administration’s primary objectives for increasing employment, such as financial assistance for small enterprises and infrastructure development. He claimed that more over N4 billion had been committed to a revolving financing scheme for grassroots entrepreneurs.

“I am happy to announce that through our local content policy, financial access to businesses, and ongoing youth agropreneur programme, over 250,000 of our population were provided job opportunities,” Adeleke stated.

According to him, the state government would boost job creation efforts by launching an agropreneur project in each of the 30 local government areas and area councils.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Moshood Olagunju, also asserted that the administration had an organised approach to job creation and that its policies had positively impacted various sectors.

He affirmed that a performance evaluation mechanism would be implemented to examine the effectiveness of the Imole Youth Corps and other employment programs.

“We are committed to transparency and results. The performance evaluation system will ensure that every initiative meets its objectives,” Olagunju said.
