The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Osun State has rejected a rumored list of consensus candidates that is making the rounds on social media, calling it phony and driven by politics.
The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State was accused by the APC in a statement released on Sunday of creating and disseminating the fictitious list in an attempt to sow uncertainty before the 2026 governorship election.
Tajudeen Lawal, the party’s chairman, claimed the move demonstrated the PDP’s attempt to hold onto power through dishonest means.
“The handlers of the hopeless party now go around concocting and circulating imaginary and fake lists suggesting that the APC has assigned elective positions to certain individuals,” the statement read.
The development was characterized by Lawal as “a roguery and drudgery meant to cause disharmony and division” within the APC. He pointed out that the PDP’s fear over the impending election was demonstrated by the distribution of such lists.
“That an official statement, affirming the fake list, could emanate from the state chairman of the ruling PDP is to show the abyss into which the PDP has dipped.”
According to the opposition party, the fabricated publication also exposed the ruling party’s satyric desperation to win reelection the following year.
The PDP has “already lost the forthcoming governorship election before it is held,” the APC said, citing the action as proof.
The statement asked the public and APC members to ignore the alleged consensus list, which it characterized as “a product of beer parlour gossip put together by drunken sailors and idle minds in the PDP.”
Lawal gave party members the assurance that no consensus list of candidates for the 2026 election has been put together by the APC.
“We want to inform our esteemed members and supporters that our party did not compile any consensus list,” he said.
He insisted that in the upcoming election, all APC candidates for governor may defeat incumbent Ademola Adeleke.
“There is none of our governorship aspirants who is not capable of sending Governor Adeleke back to Atlanta in the United States or wherever he might have come from,” the statement added.
The APC chairman stated that the party’s members were united and committed to regaining power in the state, even as he advised PDP leaders to concentrate on respectable political endeavors rather than making unfounded accusations.
“We urge the PDP handlers to go back to their drawing board with a view to planning another subterfuge. The current attempt can neither sit nor fly; it’s dead on arrival,” he said.
Lawal’s signature at the end of the statement reaffirmed the APC’s preparedness for the next election and its dedication to preserving party unity.
