The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made a serious accusation against Governor Ademola Adeleke. They claim he’s using his power to silence the opposition.

This accusation comes after a recent Court of Appeal ruling. The ruling reinstated local government chairmen who were sacked by Adeleke’s administration.

Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, issued a statement on Thursday. He warned Adeleke to avoid actions that could lead to political unrest in the state.

The APC emphasized that the court ruling is binding. They believe it should be respected by everyone, including the state government.

Olabisi said, “The earlier Governor Adeleke realises that Osun State is governed by the law and not as an extension of his family estate in Ede, the better for him.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned Governor Ademola Adeleke’s response to the court’s ruling, saying it shows he doesn’t grasp the basics of democratic governance.

The APC also argued that holding new local government elections is unjustified, as the reinstated chairmen are legally entitled to their positions.

“It defies logic that any government would attempt to conduct elections, when in the eyes of the law, there is no vacancy in the local government system,” he warned.

The party also alleged that Governor Adeleke is meddling with the judiciary. They emphasized that the courts have made a ruling on the matter, and their decision should be respected without any political interference.

The APC advised Adeleke to seek legal recourse at the Supreme Court instead of making provocative statements that could spark violence.

“If the governor is not satisfied with the ruling, the appropriate step is to approach the Supreme Court, not to incite the public against a lawful judgement,” the party added.

The APC denied claims it was plotting to cause chaos in the state. They insisted their members had no motive to incite violence.

The party shifted the blame, claiming the actual perpetrators of political violence were thugs linked to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Assuming without conceding that any group is planning to create unrest, Governor Adeleke should look within his party. PDP thugs have been attacking our members since Monday’s judgement,” the APC claimed.

“It is unfortunate that Governor Adeleke, who became governor through the judiciary, is now undermining the same institution simply because a ruling did not favour his party,” the party added.

Governor Adeleke has rejected the allegations, expressing concerns about an alleged plot by the opposition to destabilize the state.

A statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, accused the APC of trying to disrupt the upcoming local government elections on February 22nd.

Adeleke described Osun as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states. He condemned the opposition politicians, especially the APC, for spreading fake news, false narratives, and fabricated court rulings instead of facing the electorate.

The Governor cited a court judgment secured by the APP, which nullified the 2022 local government election. He maintained that this judgment remains valid.

The statement clarified that a recent Court of Appeal judgment in Akure involved the PDP’s court processes, which did not affect the existing judgment that removed the illegally elected council chairmen and councilors of the APC.

“The evil agenda is designed to create chaos and push for a declaration of a state of emergency. Security agencies have been directed to apprehend anyone involved in such a plot,” the governor stated.

Adeleke stood firm, citing a prior court ruling that invalidated the 2022 local government elections, which initially brought the reinstated chairmen to power. He argued that the recent Court of Appeal decision didn’t supersede that original judgement.

“I have directed security agencies to secure the state and ensure peace is maintained. There is no legal basis for any group to take over local government offices illegally.

“Anybody who tests our resolve to sustain law and order in Osun state will have himself to blame. As the Chief Security Officer for the state, I am determined to deploy all available machinery of the state to maintain peace and punish trouble makers.

“I also call on citizens and residents of the state to go about their normal activities without fear or intimidation.

“The government is on top of the situation. We are resolved to keep the state and the streets safe from anti-democratic elements,” he vowed.
