A confrontation broke out at the polling unit of Osun State Deputy Governor and Accord Party deputy governorship candidate, Prince Kola Adewusi, during Saturday’s governorship election in Ile-Ife.
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after the All Progressives Congress, APC, deputy governorship candidate, Benjamin Kayode Adereti, arrived at the polling centre.
Adereti had earlier voted at his designated polling unit, Waasin Polling Unit 11, Ilaare Ward 3, before making his way to the polling unit where the serving deputy governor was casting his ballot.
His arrival reportedly drew resistance from some supporters of Adewusi who were present at the location, leading to a heated exchange between the opposing groups.
The confrontation temporarily disrupted the calm at the polling unit as supporters exchanged words and tensions escalated.
The situation was later brought under control, although the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
The reason for Adereti’s visit to the deputy governor’s polling unit could not immediately be established.
However, his presence appeared to have caused unease among some of Adewusi’s supporters at the polling centre.
