Former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and his administration have been charged by the Osun State Government with contract racketeering and money laundering while they were in office.

During a live broadcast on Osun State radio stations on Monday morning, Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, made the accusations.

According to Alimi, the government has collected records to support the allegations.

Before the end of the week, he said, the state government would make the documents available to the public.

He stated: “Let me use this medium to inform members of the public that we have plausible evidence and documents to back it up that the former Governor of the state, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, his Commissioners for Finance, Alhaji Bola Oyebamiji, Commissioner for Works Remi Omowaiye, Commissioner for Local Government Adebayo Adeleke Banik, their ALGON Chairman, Abiodun Samuel Idowu and others were involved in various contract racketeering and money laundering activities during their administration.

“The claims we are making are backed up by relevant documents. We will present all of the documents very soon, from today, Monday, to Friday. This is not about the present situation in the state, but what we have been working on for months. The revelations will be broadcast live on all radio stations in the state.”

The administration was keeping an eye on operations at local government secretariats around the state, the commissioner added.

“We are also monitoring the situation at local government areas this morning and we are documenting all of the information. Saturday’s local government election will proceed without any hiccup. We are on top of the situation. I am also appealing to the people to maintain law and order,” he added.

This came after a recent discussion about the reinstatement of fired local government chairmen between Governor Ademola Adeleke and his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola. Oyetola was accused by the governor of trying to stir up trouble by putting pressure on security services to bring the officials back.

Current Marine and Blue Economy Minister Oyetola has denied any misconduct and urged Adeleke’s administration to follow the Court of Appeal’s ruling from February 10th.

Speaking to ZINGTIE on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Waheed Adekunle rejected the new accusations made by the state administration, calling them politically motivated and manufactured.

He added that they were unfounded and an effort to divert attention from the problems facing governance today.

He chastised the state government for making such irrational disclosures at this time.

He said: “Disregard the allegations. The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy did not engage in any racketeering and his cabinet members did not involve themselves in money laundering.

“The threat being made by the state government through Alimi is baseless and holds no substance. It is pure falsehood. Why are they coming up with it now? Why are they making threats on radio to report Oyetola and others to the anti-graft agencies? They should just obey the Appeal Court judgment and allow for the reinstatement of the sacked council officials.”
