Osun Guber: APC makes fresh move after INEC declaration

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State has commenced a review of the results of the 2026 governorship election across the state’s 332 wards.

The party said it would examine the outcome of the poll before determining its next course of action, including the possibility of seeking legal redress.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, following the announcement of the results by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

According to the party, its leadership is carefully assessing the results to determine whether there are grounds to utilise the constitutional provisions available for challenging aspects of the electoral process.

“We are currently studying the results of the governorship election in each of the 332 wards across the state with a view to exploring further the allowed constitutional window of opportunity in this regard,” the statement said.

The APC maintained that the conclusion of voting and declaration of results does not necessarily mark the end of the electoral process, noting that dissatisfied parties have access to established legal channels.

“We are not unaware of the fact that election is a process which begins at the registration of voters through the primary election to the election proper, which extends to the Tribunal, the Appeal Court and terminates at the Supreme Court,” it said.

The party argued that an election should not be considered fully concluded until all constitutionally recognised avenues for addressing complaints and alleged irregularities have been exhausted.

“An election cannot be said to have been concluded without having explored all these constitutionally allowed legal opportunities to correct anomalies observed in the process of the election as enshrined in the Electoral Act 2026 as amended,” the party stated.

The APC also praised its members and supporters for their dedication throughout the electoral process, saying their efforts had taken the party to a significant point in Osun State’s political history.

It reaffirmed its commitment to justice, fairness and the rule of law, while disclosing that consultations with its legal advisers would precede any decision to commence further proceedings.

“We shall not hesitate without further delay to explore the window allowed by the extant Electoral Act after due consultation with the team of our lawyers based on their professional advice,” the party said.

The party further called on its supporters to remain peaceful and avoid engaging in confrontations with supporters of the ruling party.

It also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the protection of APC members whom it alleged were being subjected to harassment.

“We are assuring them that we won’t have any cause or reason to abandon them. The current political situation is a passing phase which will soon become part of history as justice shall be done accordingly,” it concluded.
