The Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, Osun State chapter has criticised the opposition All Progressives Congress, or APC, for criticising Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election endorsements.

Sunday Bisi, the chairman of the Osun PDP, said in a statement on Monday that the criticism from the Osun APC was unfounded and an indication of desperation.

Additionally, Bisi claimed that the APC’s stance is a denial of the democratic will of the people.

The Osun PDP chairman asked the opposition parties to recognise the overwhelming public support for Governor Adeleke.

He said, “The APC must purge itself of the arrogance of not recognising the will of the people. No amount of propaganda will negate the fact that Osun residents are solidly behind Governor Adeleke.”

The PDP chairman highlighted Adeleke’s accomplishments and gave the governor credit for starting and finishing important infrastructure projects, such as bridges and roads.

According to Bisi, the Adeleke administration is currently tackling the issues caused by the APC’s failure in power.

“Osun people are not blind to the progress being made.”

Bisi who regarded as false the APC accusations of teacher disengagement, remarked that the APC failed to show evidence of the supposed sack letters.

The administration “rehabilitated over 100 public schools, improved facilities, and is set to deploy newly recruited teachers,” he said, highlighting Adeleke’s educational achievements. The governor has put in endless effort to improve the education system, which he inherited in a state of disrepair.

“In healthcare, about 200 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) have been rehabilitated and equipped with essential services. The APC should be blamed for mismanaging the $20.5 million World Bank grant meant for health infrastructure.

“It’s ironic that those responsible for neglect are now criticising the progress being made.”

Last week, the state’s PDP government, led by Ademola Adeleke, was taken on by the Osun APC.

According to a statement released by the APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, criticised Adeleke’s recent endorsements for re-election.

Olabisi insisted that these support wouldn’t guarantee him a seat in the 2026 gubernatorial election.

The Director of Media and Information for the APC, Olabisi, said,  “No amount of endorsements from any quarters could bring back a purposeless and rudderless administration.”

The APC charged Adeleke’s government with misusing public funds, specifically pointing to the MPs’ hotel accommodations as a result of poor planning when their official quarters were being renovated.

The APC questioned Adeleke’s government’s failure to hire more teachers for public schools.

The alleged firing of 1,500 teachers and dozens of health personnel from the previous government was also attacked by the party.

The party voiced worries about the possible long-term effects on the state’s educational system, pointing out that Osun hasn’t hired any teachers in more than two years while neighbouring states are.
