Governor Ademola Adeleke has received advice from the Osun Leaders of Thought, OLT not to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In addition, the political interest group strongly supported President Bola Tinubu’s reelection campaign in the 2027 presidential election and asked Governor Adeleke to stay in the party.

The group warned against increasing pressure on Adeleke to switch to the All Progressives Congress, or APC, in a statement released on Friday and signed by its Public Affairs Chief, Adesola Adigun. The group warned that such a move might destabilize both state and national political alignments.

“We take note of mounting pressure from far and near to get Governor Ademola Adeleke to cross over to the APC. This is ill-advised and unnecessary. The Governor should remain in PDP and continue the good work he is doing for the good people of Osun State,” the group said.

The group reiterated its support for President Tinubu’s 2027 aspiration, calling it a question of regional and ancestral devotion and pointing out that Osun, Tinubu’s ancestral home, had a moral duty to back his second term.

OLT emphasized that Governor Adeleke and President Tinubu would suffer if he defected to the APC.

The group characterized the action as a political diversion that would upset the delicate equilibrium within Osun’s political system.

They listed four reasons: the ongoing bipartisan feeling among voters in favor of both President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke’s reelection; the internal instability within the state APC; the historical rivalry among leading Osun political actors; and Adeleke’s unparalleled political appeal in Osun.

“To win Osun, Adeleke’s brand is a must for the President without dilution,” the group noted.

Additionally, it cautioned that combining the governor with erstwhile APC rivals would rekindle unsolved tensions.

Without switching parties, the group suggested Adeleke and the Presidency form a strategic partnership.

“We call on Mr President and the Governor of Osun State to enter into a mutual supportive agreement. Nothing like defection should be included. We speak on behalf of many silent leaders of thought across Osun State,” the statement concluded.
