Senator Kelvin Chukwu, who represents the Enugu East Senatorial District, has come under fire when a video leaked of him physically attacking a constituent during a football competition he organised.
According to SaharaReporters, the tragedy occurred during the tournament’s final match, which started in December 2025 and ended on Saturday, January 3, 2026. The identity of the assaulted person has not been revealed.
Footage acquired by the publication shows the Senator having a heated dispute with the individual before an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who is alleged to be part of Chukwu’s security detail, physically assaults the constituent. Another video appears to show a separate security operative attacking him, while other armed security men stand by.
The situation worsened when Senator Chukwu was spotted chasing the individual outside the football ground and slapping him. Despite the assault, the constituent was eventually apprehended and incarcerated.
According to a witness who talked with SaharaReporters, the incident stemmed from a minor quarrel during the community Christmas football competition in Amurri, the Senator’s hamlet.
“Senator Kelvin Chukwu slapped one of the players after a small disagreement, for years, he has done nothing tangible for the community. He only organised the football competition this December because elections are approaching” the source said.
