The First Lady of Ekiti State, Olayemi Oyebanji, has urged the public to renew their commitment to creating a society where victims of gender-based violence (GBV) can recover, and offenders are held accountable without exception.

She made this appeal at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado-Ekiti, during the event marking the fifth anniversary of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), widely recognized as Moremi Clinic.

Oyebanji encouraged the community to promptly report incidents of abuse to relevant authorities and designated support centres, emphasizing that timely action could save lives.

“This intervention is our collective fight against sexual and gender-based violence in Ekiti State. It represents not only a physical space but also a sanctuary of hope, healing, and justice for survivors,” she said.

In her role as Chairperson of the state’s Gender-Based Violence Committee, she highlighted that Moremi Clinic has, over the last five years, delivered medical care, psychological assistance, and legal aid to those affected, while ensuring that offenders face justice.

She reiterated the administration’s unwavering stance against GBV, adding that all efforts are focused on upholding the rights and safety of residents.

During her opening remarks, SARC Coordinator Mrs. Rita Ilevbare called for more personnel, utility vehicles, and digital tools to improve the centre’s ability to respond to cases effectively.

In addition, the Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Professor Kayode Olabanji, revealed that the clinic had supported around 600 individuals who experienced sexual assault, helping them transition from victims to empowered survivors.

He stressed the importance of continued partnership among ministries and government bodies to improve service delivery.
