Passengers’ fault 50% transportation subsidies from FG in four states

The federal government’s 50% transport palliative policy, which expired on Sunday, January 5, 2025, has drawn criticism from passengers. Additionally, they charged the program’s executors and transport unions with deceit and unethical behavior.

In order to comply with government directives and lessen the burden of transportation for Nigerians, the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Association of Luxurious Bus Owners of Nigeria, Good is Good Motors, and National Association of Road Transport Owners had previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government.

Some travelers spent 300 percent more for transportation during the Yuletide than they would have otherwise, indicating that passengers paid higher than typical rates. Commuters reported paying the standard fares in several parks throughout the state. “Chinesedu Onyekachukw, a commuter driver from Old Park to Emene, stated, ‘I only learned about the Federal Government bus palliative for citizens on Channels TV. In all of our meetings as members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, no one has mentioned that he was given palliative funds.
