In Katsina, hundreds of members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday.
Mustapha Inuwa, the leader of the state’s coalition, spearheaded the action.
Men and women from all 34 Katsina State Local Government Areas were among the defectors who received membership cards.
At the formal opening of the Katsina State chapter of the party state, their defection was declared.
Lawal Batagarawa, the state representative of the National Political Coalition Group, spoke at the event, which took place at the Continental Event Center in Katsina. He bemoaned the worrying rise in poverty, inflation, insecurity, and the depreciating value of the Naira.
Several industries have failed since Bola Tinubu’s administration started in 2023, according to Batagarawa.
He expressed confidence that the party would win the battle to combat poverty, illiteracy, banditry, and terrorism nationwide and underlined the value of unity among citizens, party members, and supporters.
The chairman of the ADC’s Katsina State branch, Usman Musa Wamba, stated his hope that the party will do well in the next general elections in 2027.
In order for the electorate, particularly the younger generation, to benefit from democracy, he also called for increased support.
One of the defectors, Aliyu Saulawa, a former member of the APC who was also the National Coordinator of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Movement in Nigeria and the Director of Media for the Buhari Campaign Organization, claimed that the APC had fallen far short of its campaign pledges, especially to the Northern populace.
According to him, the party has not kept a single one of the pledges it made during the most recent election campaigns.
“Without security, there is nothing like livelihood, and if you look at the Northwest, we are peasant farmers and merchants, and definitely if we lack security, we virtually lack everything, including the educational system that is collapsed, honestly, I cannot continue to remain in APC,” he added.
