A governorship hopeful under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmi Ogun, has voiced strong confidence in the party’s preparedness to win the upcoming gubernatorial election set for June 20, 2026.

Ogun, who once served as the state’s Commissioner for Works, stated that the PDP has been gaining traction across Ekiti, thanks to the dedication of its members and the growing demand from citizens for a shift in governance.

In a statement released on Saturday in Ado Ekiti through her Special Adviser on Media, Oladimeji Atenibiaje, Ogun highlighted that the party’s ongoing outreach and mobilisation initiatives have positioned it as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Despite this progress, she expressed concerns about how the current crisis within the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC)—particularly the dispute surrounding the National Secretary position—could negatively affect the party’s prospects in the 2026 election.

She warned that if the internal conflict persists, it may derail the gains the Ekiti PDP has made, even with its solid grassroots foundation and strong internal structures.

“Our objective is to win the 2026 governorship election and bring about transformative governance in Ekiti,” she stated. “But the unresolved issues within the NWC are troubling. These distractions could weaken our campaign machinery at a critical time.”

Ogun urged the NWC, under the leadership of Alhaji Iliya Umar Damagun, to prioritise resolving the rift and focus on maintaining party unity and cohesion. She emphasized that internal harmony is essential for the party to move forward successfully.

“I appeal to the leadership to find a common ground that will put an end to the ongoing dispute. The PDP is bigger than any single person or group. A divided house cannot stand, especially with the 2027 general election on the horizon.”

The PDP has been grappling with a leadership crisis involving the position of its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. This internal conflict has reportedly intensified divisions within the party, particularly among certain governors and a faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
