In order to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections, a number of Katsina state PDP chieftains have declared their intention to join a recently established opposition coalition.

The announcement was made Tuesday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Katsina by the PDP leaders, who were led by Dr. Mustapha Inuwa.

The coalition’s formation talks, which involve opposition organizations including the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), have proceeded, according to Inuwa, a former secretary to the Katsina State Government.

Despite Inuwa’s lack of specific reference of joining Atiku Abubakar’s coalition, party insiders disclosed that the plans to support the former PDP presidential nominee are complete.

“We have commenced discussions with members of the NNPP, PRP, and even some prominent APC members to form a coalition for the 2027 election,” Inuwa stated.

Inuwa went on to say that this movement was being supported by certain APC members who had important positions in the federal and state administrations.

In the run-up to the 2027 elections, the coalition’s members—politicians from both inside and outside Katsina—are anticipated to shortly decide which political party to support.

Former PDP National Secretary Senator Umar Ibrahim Tsauri, former Daura Zone Senator Ahmed Babba Kaiya, and Ahmed Musa Yar’adua were among the notable attendees of the gathering.
