According to reports, PDP governors will meet for two days in Ibadan, Oyo State, to discuss crucial issues such as declaring a state of emergency and the political unrest in Rivers State after Governor Siminalayi Fubara was suspended.
The conference began on Sunday and is expected to cover a number of national problems, including the party’s Supreme Court case against the Federal Government’s ruling, the internal strife within the PDP’s South-South zone, and other matters.
Former militant leader and former MEND commander Chief Government Ekpemupolo, commonly known as Tompolo, broke his silence during his 54th birthday celebration in Gbaramatu, Delta State.
He expressed his optimism that Governor Fubara will be reinstated and assured his people that aid would continue to be provided to the Ijaw Nation.
Tompolo urged his followers to maintain composure and have faith in the process, saying, “I have never fought and lost a battle.” Additionally, he urged Nigerians, especially the Ijaw, to keep behind President Bola Tinubu, whom he said could bring about constructive change.
As tensions in Rivers State continue, Dr. Farah Dagogo, a former member of the House of Representatives, has filed a lawsuit against President Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Rivers State’s sole administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Etteh Ibas (rtd), at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.
Dagogo is contesting the validity of Fubara’s suspension and the administrators who were subsequently appointed to the 23 local government districts in the state.
The court has authorized the use of alternate methods to serve the defendants and set the hearing date for May 12.
The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has also denounced the state-wide demolition of Governor Fubara’s official pictures and billboards.
Prof. Benjamin Okaba, the president of INC, called the conduct “barbaric” and charged that the current state government was attempting to incite violence in order to defend the emergency rule.
Additionally, Okaba called the sole administrator’s attempts to nominate officials and produce a new budget unlawful, questioning their validity.
He called for the immediate removal of all administrators who had been appointed illegally.
