PDP govs reject Atiku-led opposition coalition

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum, have separated from the coalition of opposition politicians.

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Forum, led by Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, said that it will not form any alliances.

It revealed this at a meeting on Monday in the capital of Oyo State, Ibadan.

By supporting Setonji Koshoedo, the Deputy National Secretary, as Acting National Secretary, the Forum further exacerbated the dispute over the party’s true national secretary.

Recall that Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate of the PDP, has declared the formation of an opposition coalition.

Among other politicians, the coalition is thought to include former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai and Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

According to Atiku, the coalition’s goal is to overthrow President Bola Tinubu by 2027.

Following El-Rufai’s switch from the All Progressives Congress to the Social Democratic Party, or SDP, the partnership was announced.

Since Tinubu took over, El-Rufai had charged that the APC lacked internal democracy.

Adewale Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s last presidential candidate, has claimed that Atiku and Obi were in discussions to join the SDP.

He claimed that Tinubu and the APC would be defeated and retired if Atiku, Obi, and other well-known politicians who are prepared to join the SDP could adhere to the party’s culture.

El-Rufai was Atiku’s stand-in in the SDP in the event that the PDP refused to give him a presidential ticket, according to Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP.
