In a significant shift in Abia State’s political landscape, over 2,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Isialangwa South LGA have defected to the Labour Party. This mass defection was led by Ward Chairmen and is seen as a show of solidarity with Rowland Dennis, the member representing Isiala Ngwa South constituency, who recently left the PDP.
Governor Alex Otti welcomed the new members into the Labour Party and presented them with their new party flags. The flags were handed over by Smart Ogbonna, the LP Chairman of Isiala Ngwa South.
Governor Otti hailed the Labour Party as an inclusive platform that is open to all Nigerians and committed to good governance.

He expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for bringing so many of his people into LP and gave the new members the assurance that they would not face prejudice and would be treated with the same respect as those who had joined long ago.
The governor made it clear that the goal of his government was to provide democracy dividends to the underprivileged and impoverished.
Governor Otti stated that he was not worried about upcoming political contests but was committed to carrying out his mandate, rejecting rumors that Hon. Dennis’ departure was connected to the 2027 elections.
Speaking, Hon. Dennis stated that the governor’s performance throughout the state was the reason he was drawn to join the Labour Party.
