In Abia State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suffered a major blow Monday when hundreds of its members defected to the Labour Party (LP).

The defection was spearheaded by Sunday Anya Ojo, a former House of Assembly candidate and grassroots politician from Elu Ohafia’s Isiama Ward.

Ikechukwu Emetu, the state’s deputy governor, welcomed them into the LP.

Held at the home of the state’s Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, in Amaekpu Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area, the defection ceremony attracted a sizable number of supporters.

Speaking to reporters about his choice to leave the main opposition party for LP, Ojo stated that one of the main reasons he left was the PDP’s declining power and relevance in Abia State.

He pledged to help the Labour Party succeed in the state and expressed faith in its increasing momentum.

“I decided to dump PDP for the Labour Party and to also inform them that PDP in Abia State is dead and gone. PDP is in a sorry state right now—in fact, PDP is in the mortuary. I’m now in LP with my entire political structure,” he said.
