The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Ebonyi State has blasted Works Minister David Umahi for his remark that there isn’t an opposition party in the state, highlighting how dishonest and deceptive it was.

The PDP insisted that it is still a strong opposition force in the state, with a clear vision and a strategic plan to retake its base, in a statement released by Party Chairman Mr. Onyemaechi Nwele.

“I feel compelled to address recent pronouncements by Sen. Engr. David Nweze Umahi, the erstwhile governor of Ebonyi State and current Minister for Works.

“Sen. Umahi claimed that there is no political opposition in the state, portraying the situation as propitious for the incumbent governor, Francis Nwifuru, attributing the absence of opposition to the defection of erstwhile adversaries to the ruling party, APC.”

“Such assertions are not only misleading but are crafted with the intent to deceive the public. The PDP remains a formidable opposition force in Ebonyi State, with a lucid vision and strategic blueprint to reinvigorate our presence at the state echelon. Our ambition is to reclaim the governorship and secure a majority in legislative positions through democratic processes.”

Nwele pointed out that Umahi’s primary goals were to protect his political aspirations before the general election in 2027 and make amends with Francis Nwifuru, the state governor.

“The PDP will not engage in political machinations with Sen. Umahi, who seems eager to reconcile with the governor, perhaps anticipating political headwinds at the federal level under President Tinubu. His motivations are clear, as he seeks to safeguard his political clout should future opportunities for a senatorial seat emerge,” the PDP boss said.

He emphasized that the PDP would overthrow the current APC in 2027 and urged the populace, particularly the state’s hordes of PDP loyalists, to ignore the former governor’s outburst.
