Nwisabari Bani, the leader of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has urged the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to suspend and dismiss Governor Siminalayi Fubara. During a news briefing, Bani accused Fubara of attempting to divide the PDP and cause instability in Rivers.
In the video shared by Channels Television, Bani also criticised Oko Jumbo, who claims to be the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He argued that Jumbo had no legal standing to assume that job and urged authorities to arrest and prosecute him. According to Bani, these measures are part of Governor Fubara’s bigger goal to foment division and undermine governance.
The youth leader said that if the PDP leadership does not take action against Fubara, young people in Rivers State may abandon the party in subsequent elections. He emphasised that the NYCN supports unity, peace, and the rule of law, and that they will not allow the governor to utilise taxpayer funds to cause difficulties.
Bani also criticised the state’s lack of adequate financial procedures, asking how only a few people can spend public monies without an approved budget. He asked the Rivers State Government to uphold the law and warned that the young would not tolerate lawlessness.
In the following days, Bani stated that the youth council would meet with appropriate authorities to take bold measures to defend democracy in Rivers State. He told the youth that they would stay nonviolent but steadfast in their demands for justice and accountability.
