Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, is the leader Nigeria needs, according to Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos state for the 2023 general election.

Nonetheless, Rhodes-Vivour stated that Obi is not the candidate “we need for us” in an interview with the Honest Bunch Podcast.

“Peter Obi is the leader that we need for Nigeria, but not the politician we need for us,” he said.

Additionally, Rhodes-Vivour emphasised, “Peter (Obi) does not buy votes. He won Lagos without buying votes.”

In last year’s poll, Obi came in third, behind Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu.

Rhodes-Vivour, for his part, lost to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the race for governor.

Rhodes-Vivour contested the election results to the Supreme Court, where a five-member panel dismissed two separate appeals contesting Sanwo-Olu’s victory and, in a unanimous decision rendered in January 2024, upheld the declaration of Olu as the victor of the March 18, 2023, governorship election.
