Adamu Garba, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced that he will stop criticizing Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, calling him a “worthy statesman.”

In a post on his verified X account on Saturday, Garba acknowledged that he was once one of Obi’s fiercest critics during the 2023 general elections.

However, he said he now recognizes the former governor of Anambra State for his resilience and continuing political influence even as part of the opposition.

“Nobody attacked @PeterObi during the last election like I did. But to some significant degree, he is able to reorganise and made himself shockingly endearing to many.

“Even in the opposition, I’ll no longer attack him like I did before, because he came to me as a worthy statesman,” Garba wrote.

Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential race, remains popular especially among Nigerian youths and civil society organizations.

He is well known for his persistent calls for good governance, transparency, and economic reforms.
