The gift includes $19 million to fund the expansion and modernization of the hospital’s Caroline Kimmel Emergency Department and $9 million to bolster the medical school’s clinical and translational research programs. Jefferson Health CEO Joe Cacchione praised the Kimmels’ generosity, stating, “This remarkable gift is a testament to their personal conviction and public purpose, and it reaffirms Jefferson’s place as a national leader in academic medicine, research, and uncompromising care.

Sidney Kimmel expressed his passion for the project, saying, “For Caroline and me, this is the right time, the right project, and the right place to give. My heart has always been in Philadelphia, and access to the highest level of care has never been more important. We are pleased to continue our partnership with Jefferson, helping to build both the facilities and the research engine that will change lives for generations.”

The Kimmels’ gift is part of their ongoing partnership with Jefferson, following previous donations of $70 million in 2019 and $110 million in 2014
