From a tender age, Lucky Dude began to produce music. Prior to 1984, when he began performing reggae, he recorded some “mbaqanga” songs in Zulu and Afrikaans. These songs were influenced by Peter Tosh.

He was the most famous reggae musician in South Africa. His switch from mbaqanga to reggae after meeting Bob Marley and Peter Tosh led to his CD Prisoner becoming South Africa’s most popular record in the 1980s and 1990s.

The Serious Reggae Business collection sold extensively in Ghana. He has received over 20 awards, both nationally and internationally. His entire life was spent on the move. When Lucky Dube was killed, it appeared that someone was attempting to steal his car.

In the dead of night, he was shot in a Johannesburg neighborhood. His age was 43. Scott Bobb, our employee, sends us updates from there.

In connection with his death, five men were taken into custody, and three of them were convicted on March 31, 2009. The three individuals who assaulted the reggae singer claimed they shot and killed him during a car theft attempt, believing he was Nigerian and unaware of his identity as a reggae singer.

According to South African police, the renowned reggae musician was shot by three individuals while he was dropping off his son in Johannesburg’s Rosettenville area.

State witness Mpho Maruping testified that her husband confessed to being involved in Dube’s unsuccessful hijacking and recounted to her the events concerning the multi-award-winning superstar.

The woman described to the Johannesburg High Court the evening when Dube was shot while he was driving his son and daughter to school in Rosettenville. Dube’s relatives were weeping off-screen.

Thabo and Maruping Maruping are a married couple. Initially, he faced accusations of murdering Dube; however, later on, he became a state witness.
