The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Plateau State is in mourning after Mama Lydia Yilwatda, the mother of the party’s national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, passed away on Sunday.
In a statement expressing the party’s condolences, Shittu Bamaiyi, the state’s interim APC publicity secretary, said that Mama Yilwatda’s passing was a personal loss for the National Chairman of the party as well as for the whole APC family in Plateau State and the nation as a whole.
Shittu said that because she passed away when her prayers and advice were most needed, her passing was terrible and heartbreaking, especially for her children.
Part of the statement reads: “There is no doubt that the late Mama’s death is painful and devastating to the Yilwatdas, because she died at the time her motherly advice and prayers were most needed, particularly to the National Chairman, Professor Yilwatda.”
He added that she was a well-respected leader in the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) and a devout Christian.
“The deceased was a devoted Christian, virtuous, humane, and humble woman leader, particularly in the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN).
“The late Mama Lydia was known for the tireless and immeasurable efforts, alongside her late husband, Reverend Toma Yilwatda, in boosting the Church in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Plateau States.
“The consoling record is that the deceased left behind an indelible and accomplished legacy, which is manifested in her children.
“While sharing with Professor Yilwatda in his moment of grief, the party prays God to grant the late Mama’s soul eternal rest,” the statement added.
