The Lagos State Police Command stated that it has identified and apprehended policemen accused of extorting N3.3 million from a couple in the state.

On Monday, the command revealed that the police had been tracked down in response to social media complaints.

According to reports, officers from Area H Command in Ogudu wrongfully apprehended a couple on December 18, 2025, and forced them to pay $2,000.

It was further said that once the incident drew public attention to X, N2.2 million was refunded to the victims, while the cops reportedly requested to keep about N1.1 million, claiming the money had already been divided among other people.

SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development, saying the officers involved had been taken into custody and sent to the command headquarters for further investigation.

She revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, had asked the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration to oversee the investigation.

According to the command, the officers involved have subsequently provided statements as part of the current inquiry, and attempts are on to have the complainant formally present his account to aid the investigation.
