Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, the Commissioner of Police for Taraba State, has guaranteed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the Command is prepared to deploy skilled officers and sufficient resources for the upcoming Karim-Lamido 1 State House of Assembly bye-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.
During a meeting on Wednesday with Alhaji Umar Mukhtar Gajiram, the INEC Chairman in the state, held at the Police Command Headquarters in Jalingo, Isokpan highlighted the difficult terrain of Karim-Lamido and stressed the need for strict security measures.
She encouraged the electoral commission to maintain close collaboration with all security agencies as the election approaches.
According to information from our reporter, the meeting aimed to enhance inter-agency cooperation and review the security arrangements to guarantee a smooth, peaceful, and credible election.
In his comments, the INEC Chairman commended the police for their crucial role in safeguarding election integrity and described the meeting as a chance to foster proactive cooperation.
He pointed out that every election, regardless of its scale, requires the active involvement of security forces to maintain peace and order.
Both INEC and the police reaffirmed their dedication to working jointly to ensure a transparent and violence-free election.
The police command also issued a stern warning to political actors and their supporters to comply with electoral laws, pledging to take firm action against anyone who tries to disrupt the electoral process.
