The Sokoto State Police Command has taken into custody major suspects connected to a string of home invasions and thefts within the state capital. This is part of an intensified effort to combat domestic criminal activity, and authorities have recovered stolen valuables estimated to be worth millions of Naira.

The Command noted in a statement that the operation commenced on May 8, 2025, around 6:00 p.m., after a report was filed by one Mustapha Maikano, who resides in Mana Layout. He lodged the complaint at Unguwar Rogo Police Station following a break-in at his residence.

Maikano explained that unidentified individuals broke into his house and made away with various personal items. Among the stolen property were an inverter freezer, an LG plasma TV, a travel bag filled with personal effects, lace material, Atamfa fabric, a collection of bed linens, and a center rug.

Acting on gathered intelligence, police officers quickly detained a tricycle operator believed to have relevant information about the incident.

The detained suspect eventually directed authorities to the main offender, identified as Musa Isah, who lives in the Tamaje area of Sokoto.

“A search of Isah’s residence led to the recovery of all the items reported stolen by Mr. Maikano,” the statement read.

During the search, police officers also found a pilgrim box tagged with the name “Amina Muhammad Lawal” and a contact number.

Amina, when contacted, confirmed that her residence in Sarda Quarters was broken into on February 12, 2025, resulting in the theft of items valued at ₦1,531,800.

Continued questioning of those already in custody led to the apprehension of another suspect, Abbas Isah, from the Mabera Area. He was identified as both an accomplice in the crimes and a receiver of stolen property.

A search of Abbas Isah’s residence revealed a significant collection of items suspected to be stolen. Among them were eight sacks of rice, a new Kemage KM 4000 generator, a stainless vacuum flask, a voltage stabilizer, a Samsung tablet, fifteen men’s kaftans, an iPhone 14, a box filled with 22 wrappers and five pieces of lace fabric, a handbag, three women’s purses, baby apparel, and three sets of jewelry.

According to reports, the suspects admitted their involvement in several break-ins across various areas in Sokoto.

“All suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the police said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, applauded the successful operation, recognizing the officers’ commitment and professionalism.

The Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding lives and property, while encouraging the public to stay alert and support efforts to curb home-related crimes.
