Police tracks down bandits on mission to buy AK-47 in Kano

The Police Command has intercepted heavily armed bandits in the state on a mission to buy weapons of mass destruction, including AK-47 rifles.

According to SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the PPRO, the noteworthy discovery was a component of the state’s attempts to stop banditry and related crimes from infiltrating.

Three individuals from Katsina State and their collaborator from Kano are among the four persons who were detained, he said. They have all been successfully captured and are being held at the Command’s cell.

“At about 2:00 p.m., a team of police detectives led by SP Ahmad Abdullahi, Officer-in-Charge of Jar Kuka Out-Post, Kano, apprehended four suspected bandits at Chula Filling Station, Hotoro Quarters, Kano.

“The suspects, namely Shukurana Salihu, 25 years old; Rabi’u Dahiru, 35 years old; Ya’u Idris, 30 years old—all from Katsina State—and Muktar Sani, 30 years old, of Yandodo Hotoro Quarters, Kano, were arrested based on credible intelligence that they were in Kano with the intent to purchase an AK-47 rifle.”

Following a comprehensive search, he stated, the following items were found:

Twelve live bullets in various calibers, and three locally manufactured revolver pistols

Twenty-eight thousand, eight hundred naira (N1,028,800) in cash, three cartridges, two cutlasses, four knives, and twenty-four pieces of ball bearings.

According to Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects are presently being investigated in secret at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and after the investigation is finished, they will be charged in court for prosecution.

“This achievement is a testament to the Command’s commitment to tackling the infiltration of banditry in the state and other forms of criminality. We appreciate the support and cooperation of the public in our efforts to maintain law and order.”
