The Edo State Police Command freed Reverend Canon Tony Mukoro from alleged kidnappers.

ZINGTIE reports that while the victim was driving home in his automobile, he was kidnapped by gunmen who may have been kidnappers in the Isihor community in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.

Chidi Nwabuzor, the command’s public relations officer, verified the incident to Benin City reporters.

He said that as the clergyman was going to drive his Toyota Highlander, registered BEN 822 SR, into his home in the Isihor village, thugs ambushed and abducted him. This information was reported to the divisional police officer in charge of the Ugbowo division, Benin City, Edo State.

“Division operators jumped into action right away and stopped the car. They got into a gunfight with the thugs. The victim was rescued unharmed, and the thugs ran away amid the firefight,” he stated.

He claimed that from the suspects, one AK-47 rifle, one spent AK-47 round, two pump-action weapons, fourteen live cartridges, a cap, and a bag were found.

He continued by saying that attempts are being made to apprehend the evading suspects and bring them to justice.
