The Taraba State Police Command has arrested a suspect for allegedly impersonating the Aide-de-Camp, ADC, to the governor of Taraba State and defrauding members of the public.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, Victor Mshelizah, the arrest followed a complaint received on May 12, 2026, by the ADC to the governor concerning individuals allegedly using his name and office to deceive unsuspecting politicians and residents of the state.

The police said security operatives immediately launched an investigation after receiving credible intelligence on the fraudulent activities.

The suspect, identified as Seth Samuel Sule of Magami Quarters in Jalingo Local Government Council of Taraba State, was subsequently apprehended in connection with the offence.

“Police investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly used a GSM number to impersonate the governor’s ADC between late April and early May 2026.

During interrogation, Sule reportedly confessed to defrauding a victim of N1.32 million under the guise of assisting the individual to secure the All Progressives Congress Federal House of Representatives ticket,” police said.

The command said the suspect admitted that the claim was false and intended to deceive the victim for financial gain.

The police further disclosed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the inquiry.

The Command warned members of the public to remain vigilant against individuals posing as government officials or associates of public office holders for fraudulent purposes.

It also advised citizens to verify political claims and sensitive transactions through official channels before making payments or commitments.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Morkwap Sebastian Dongshal, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling fraud and other criminal activities across Taraba State.
