Malik Madaki Bosso, a former legislator from Niger State, has accused Nigerian politicians of intentionally fostering poverty and hunger as tools to control and exploit citizens for political advantage.

In a sharp criticism of the country’s leadership, Bosso condemned political figures for abandoning the people during times of hardship, only to reappear during election seasons to solicit votes.

Delivering his Sallah message, he stated, “The people must reflect and reassess their condition. Though Sallah was meant to be celebrated with ease, poverty and lack have denied majority of the people this opportunity.”

According to him, “The highest money shared during the last government among the federal, state and local governments was about N750 billion. But now, the three tiers of government share about N1.4 to 2.4 trillion”

“How can you justify that despite this huge difference, there is increasing poverty and hunger. When there is a need for people in position of authority to help, they always complain that there’s no money”.

He argued that many politicians only feign concern for citizens during campaign periods, using financial incentives to win support, then neglecting the people once elected. “They abandon the people, leaving them to grapple with poverty and insecurity,” he said.

Bosso urged authorities at all levels to uphold their constitutional responsibility to ensure the welfare and safety of Nigerians. He also called on citizens to hold their leaders accountable and to stand firm against political manipulation.

Insisting, he said, ” Resist the manipulation of greedy politicians who only care about their votes during elections”

In addition, he expressed sympathy for the people of Mokwa, who continue to endure the effects of severe flooding in their communities. He appealed to public officials not to turn their backs on these affected residents in their time of need.
