According to a source close to the Polytechnic community, John fainted immediately after entering the pitch and was rushed to a private hospital in Ikot Ekpene, where he was referred to General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene. The president of the Journalism and Media Studies Students Association, Mr Nsoefen Mark Akpan, who witnessed the incident, said the doctor pronounced the deceased dead on arrival at the hospital
“We rushed him to the hospital, and the doctor said he was dead on arrival. We didn’t believe it, so we took him to church for prayers, but it didn’t work. Another spiritualist offered to resuscitate him, but he said the deceased had already been admitted into the spirit world,” Akpan said.

Akpan expressed surprise over the sudden death, revealing that John wrote exams last Thursday without showing any signs of sickness. “He was the leader of the karate training, and he does that every Saturday morning. It’s surprising,” he said.
The Head of the Department, Dr Inemesit Umore, addressed the students at the hospital, and the corpse was deposited in the mortuary after the parents were contacted
