Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has been held accountable by President Bola Tinubu for the state’s continuing political crisis.

He voiced his concerns about the political actors in Rivers State’s failure to come to a consensus and maintain peace during a countrywide broadcast on Tuesday.

The governor was charged by the president with destroying the State Assembly facility and neglecting to reconstruct it for the previous 15 months.

He pointed out that the parties have not been able to come to a truce in spite of his and other stakeholders’ initiatives.

Tinubu further charged that the governor had dismantled the government’s legislative branch.

Additionally, citing what he referred to as “the latest security reports from the state,” the President said that the governor had neglected to address pipeline vandalism occurrences.

The President said, “The latest security reports made available to me show that between yesterday and today, there have been disturbing incidents of pipeline vandalism by some militants, without the governor taking any action to curtail them.

“I have, of course, given a stern order to the security agencies to ensure the safety of the good people of Rivers State and the oil pipelines.

“With all these and many more, no good and responsible President will stand by and allow the grave situation to continue without taking remedial steps prescribed by the Constitution to address the situation in the state, which no doubt requires extraordinary measures to restore good governance, peace, order, and security.”

Citing the legislative branch of government’s inability to function, President Tinubu proclaimed a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday.

Retired Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas was chosen by him to assume the state’s administrative duties.
