Press employee Emmanuel Lakehinde was given a life sentence by a Lagos court for raping a juvenile and defiling her.
When Lakehinde appeared before Justice Rahman Oshodi at the Ikeja Special Offenses and Domestic Court, he was convicted and given a life sentence.
The 11-year-old child was sexually abused on December 12, 2013, at Sanusi Street, Shomolu, by Lakehinde and others who are still at large, including Sesan Oluwole, who jumped bail, according to the prosecution, led by Babajide Boye.
Sections 137 and 409 of Lagos State’s 2015 Criminal Law were allegedly violated by the offenses.
The survivor, her grandfather, and a medical expert were among the three witnesses Boye called, and the court accepted their testimony along with additional exhibits.
The prosecution has established the case beyond a reasonable doubt, according to Justice Oshodi’s ruling.
He emphasized the seriousness of the crime, pointing out that one of the most serious legal infractions is the sexual abuse of children.
“The child you assaulted was 11 years old. Her family rightly rejected any plea bargain, as your actions have caused irreversible harm and trauma that will stay with her for life,” the judge said.
Lakehinde was given a life sentence for defilement and an extra ten years for conspiracy by Oshodi.
In compliance with Sections 33 and 38 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, Law, 2021, the court further mandated that Lakehinde’s name be added to the Sex Offenders Register.
